Qualitative Research Methods

Rated as intermediate level, the course is designed for those with some related experience, such as students or professionals in social sciences. It’s not strictly for absolute beginners.

The course includes eight in-depth modules, covering:

• Philosophy of Qualitative Research: ontology, epistemology, phenomenology, hermeneutics.
• Observation techniques (ethnography, participant observation), practices, and data description.
• Good practices: triangulation, reflexivity, theoretical saturation, criteria for robust research.
• Qualitative interviewing techniques, building rapport, probing, and behaviour.
• Qualitative analysis methods: coding, framework analysis, interpretative strategies.
• Writing, mixing methods, and ethics: handling mixed-methods, responsible writing, and ethical considerations.

• Estimated at approximately 23 hours, typically completed over several weeks with a flexible, self-paced structure.
• Assessment includes three quizzes and peer-reviewed assignments, designed to reinforce learning and comprehension.
